Bruce practises within a wide range of areas of civil law. He is both a trial and appellate advocate.
In 2012 Bruce appeared in the High Court in a lengthy trial of charges laid against Directors of a Finance Company arising out of non-compliance with the terms of a Debenture Trust Deed and the provisions of the Securities Act and Regulations. Bruce appeared in the Court of Appeal on this matter.
Bruce has appeared in the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court for insurance companies in cases arising out of the earthquakes in Christchurch.
Bruce continues to be instructed in the fields of media law and defamation. In competition law Bruce has continued to work both in Fair Trading Act and regulatory matters. In respect of tort liability, Bruce continues to advise firms of chartered accountants on matters arising out of both Advisory and Audit matters. He has recently advised on company valuations, Body Corporate disputes, banking insolvency matters and matters of corporate governance. Bruce is instructed in litigation involving Trusts. He appeared for Coca-Cola in the High Court trial of a trademark dispute with Pepsi.
